DAY 2: OLYMPUS Traditionally regarded as the heavenly abode of the Greek gods and the site of the throne of Zeus, Olympus seems to have originally existed as an idealized mountain that only later came to be associated with a specific peak. The early epics, the Illiad and the Odyssey (composed by Homer around 700BC) offer little information regarding the geographic location of the heavenly mountain and there are several peaks in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus that bear the name Olympus. The most favored mythological choice is the tallest mountain range in Greece, the Olympos massif, 100 kilometers southwest of the city of Thessaloniki in northern Greece. The highest peak is Mytikas at 2918 meters. We will walk through the paths of the mountain, have a pick nick in the forest and return to Litochoro for dinner and overnight. The footpath up to the hut is also a mule track or route leading from the Papingo villages to various high level grazing pastures which are the traditional territory of two or three local Sarakatsani shepherding families. There are four springs along the way. After, walk to Mikro Papingo for lunch and short visit of the village. DAY 5: PAPINGO - IOANNINA A tour of Ioannina old quarter and citadel is worthwhile. Out-of-town excursions could include the huge limestone cave system at Perama, discovered in the 1940's, or the 3rd century BC theatre of Dodoni, and nearby ancient oracle with its whispering oaks, 15 km/9.3 miles from Ioannina and accessible in an afternoon by public bus. Day 4 – Chalkidiki Mount Athos one day Cruise An unusual day tour along the monk's republic Athos within the scope of a restful ship trip. The monk's republic on the third and eastern peninsula of the Halkidiki is a self-administering part of the Greek-orthodox church and his monuments from the Byzantine time take pleasure of worldwide fame. Since foundation (between 7. And 9. Cent.) the admission is prohibited to women. Men can enter only after getting an approval by the administration of mountain Athos. Twenty cloisters existing today accommodate precious objects of incalculable historical value and are infallible witnesses of the Byzantine empire. From the hotel the journey starts by the bus to Ormos Panagias, a small fishing place on the north-east coast of the Sithonia. Here we go aboard and reach in a restful boat trip the southeast point of the mountain Athos. The ship turns here and goes along the coast with breathtaking views of the monasteries. During this distance you receive from our tourist guide interesting informations about every monastery and the monastic life. On the border to the monk's republic in Ouranoupolis the ship puts in to a 2-hour stop where you have the opportunity, to take your lunch in one of the numerous taverns and to enjoy an ouzo. After lunch the ship brings you again to Ormos Panagias where our buses will wait around to bring you back into your hotel. The ship disposes of a bar with various drinks and sandwiches. Day 5-6 - The charms of Sithonia Halkidiki is a popular holiday destination situated in the north east of Greece, facing the beautiful Aegan Sea. Halkidiki is divided into three peninsulas, Kassandra to the west, Sithonia in the centre and Athos to the east. With its white beaches and pine-studded headland, the westernmost area, also known as Kassandra, is the most popular with tourists and locals. Here you'll find a wide range of , traditional Greek tavernas and bars. On the beach you can enjoy plenty of water sports, such as wakeboarding, water skiing and snorkelling. If you are more of a nature fanatic then the rugged and exhilarating peninsula of Sithonia is for you. Halkidiki holidays offer a true mix of nightlife to choose from; tourists can spend their evenings taking a quiet moonlit strolls along or sipping drinks at a waterside bar or choose to indulge in a livelier atmosphere in the likes of Fourka and Hanioti, dancing the night away in bars and pubs.
